Air Conditioning Basics
The four main components to your air conditioner are:
This is the outside unit. This is where the gas from the compressor is condensed into a liquid. The gas that enters the condenser is very hot. The temperature is then lowered so that the gas can convert back to a liquid.
This is inside the condenser. It circulates the pressurized refrigerant, to concentrates the heat and changes the low pressure gas to high pressure.
This is the part of the system that is inside the home. In simple language: it absorbs the heat from your home.
4. Expansion Valve
This controls the amount of refrigerant in your system.
All of these pieces are connected by a copper tube that handles refrigerant, creating the closed-loop. Heat is collected in the evaporator, sent outside to the condenser the heat is removed and the cool air is recirculated back into your home.
An Air Conditioner Doesn’t Create Cool Air
What happens in the process is actually the removal of heat from the air. Your AC uses a chemical called refrigerant to remove heat and transfer it outside. The warm air runs through the lines and coils in your unit and goes form liquid to gas and back again and in the is process the refrigerant removes the heat and transfers it elsewhere so that when the air comes out the other side it is cool.
Your AC Will Remove Humidity
Lower humidity helps the over all comfort level by making you feel cooler even if the temperature is the same.
Your Air Filter Needs to be Checked and Replaced Every 3-6 Months (depending on manufacturers recommendations)
A dirty air filter restricts your air flow which reduces efficiency, costing you money and over time can put stress on your unit and could cause a costly repair.
Maintenance, Maintenance, Maintenance
Your HVAC systems needs regular check ups to keep it running in tip top shape. Having regular annual preventative maintenance will bring you longer life and fewer breakdowns over all.
What is SEER?
The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) measures air conditioning and heat pump cooling efficiency, which is calculated by the cooling output for a typical cooling season divided by the total electric energy input during the same time frame. A higher SEER rating means greater energy efficiency. [Trane]

“My experience with Chaves today was nothing short of stellar. The owner of the company made it his personal business to come out and repair our air conditioning system when he found out that we had a child who suffered from extreme asthma, and he did this during an extremely hot and humid time when the company was completely booked. I am absolutely floored and 100% satisfied as a customer. I recommend Chaves HVAC to anybody and everybody. Thank you Andre and thank you Chaves HVAC for being the absolute best!”

“The owner came out to repair our air conditioner on the same day we called in with a problem. He methodically reviewed the problem and quickly determined the needed solution which he then implemented. The air conditioner is now working fine. Outstanding service!”

“It was my first time having someone come from between 10 – 12, as I usually have the first appointment in the morning. As I was having a tea party, it was important that the serviceman come on time and he did. You always have lovely, well trained young men, who come to the house, and it is a pleasure to do business with you.”

“Today I had my yearly maintenance for my A/C.
Albert was prompt, friendly and very efficient.
He did tell me that my pump was running slowly.
He showed me the pump, explained in detail how it worked.
He showed me the safety backup, and felt it was fine for me to wait until my next service date in November for my furnace.
I have dealt with Chaves for the last 12 years and have been very pleased with their service..”
