Don’t get left in the cold! Is your furnace acting up, is it blowing cold air or making too much noise? Our experienced team of professionals is here to keep your home warm and cozy. We repair all makes and models and we will never try to sell you a service that you don’t need. Our technicians are honest and hard working and we are always transparent and fair about the work we do.
Sometimes a repair is not sufficient to fix your furnace. Sometimes a new furnace is the most cost effective and energy efficient way to go. We will always be honest with you about a possible furnace replacement. We value our time and your money, we don’t want to perform repairs or service on an appliance that is need of replacement.
If you do need a furnace replacement, we know how overwhelming it can be. Here are some of the frequently asked questions about furnaces that we get from some of our Hudson residents:
What are the different types of furnaces?
Single Stage – This type of furnace has only one stage of operation. It can either be turned on or turned off.
Two Stage – This type of furnace has two settings, full and half speed. This is a more efficient way to heat and provides for better comfort because it can move the air at a slower pace.
Variable Stage or Modulating – This kind of furnace modulates the speed and heat output based on the temperature outside and the desired comfort level. This furnace only works as much as you need it, this makes it the most energy efficient type of furnaces.
What is AFUE?
Annualized Fuel Utilization Efficiency
A measure of furnace heating efficiency. The higher the AFUE, the more efficient the furnace.
What size furnace do I need?
We can calculate the correct size furnace for your home. The number of BTUs or British Thermal Units, needed to heat your home is dependent on a number of variables. Contrary to what you might think, a bigger furnace may not necessarily mean more heating power for your home. Call us at 978-562-5309 or contact us online and we can set up an appointment to calculate the size furnace you might need.
HEAT PUMP SERVICE, REPAIR, AND REPLACEMENT
We don’t just service furnaces. Many of our Hudson and surrounding area customers have heat pumps. Heat pumps are an energy efficient and environmentally friendly way to heat your home. If you want a heat pump installed or serviced or need repairs for your current one Chaves Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. is here for you.
What kind of heat pump do you have?
A heat pump is a device that transfers heat from one place to another, from in to out or from out to in. It collects energy from a source and then transfers that energy into heat for your home. There are 3 basic forms of heat pump available:
An air source heat pump collects energy from the air through a series of coils and transfers it into heat.
A water source heat pump collects energy from water by running a series of pipes underwater and then transfers that into heat for your home.
A geothermal heat pump, also known as a ground source heat pump collects energy from the earth through a series of coils and transfers that energy into heat.
Many of our Hudson customers have boilers in their homes and workplaces. Boilers are a complex appliance with a fairly basic purpose, to heat water and distribute it through your home. But just because it seems simple doesn’t mean its easy to fix.
The key components in your boiler are a burner, combustion chamber, heat exchanger and controls. The controls regulate ignitions, burner firing rate, fuel supply, air supply, exhaust draft, water temperature, steam pressure and boiler pressure. The water is heated inside the boiler and is pumped through pipes and delivered to the radiators around your home or building.
There are a number of places where things can go wrong in a boiler, it is best to have a certified professional diagnose the problem for you.

When he arrived he was friendly and requested I bump up the thermostat so he could run the tests. He was quick despite having to climb up and down the pull-down stairs to the attic.”
